About the event
The New Phytologist Foundation will host an upcoming webinar on 4 November 2025 at 13:30 GMT, titled “Microbes as Hidden or Prominent Players in Plant Life.”
The event will feature Dr. Itumeleng Moroenyane (Stellenbosch University) and Ezgi Mehmetoglu Boz (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences), with Maarja Öpik as host.
Dr. Moroenyane will discuss “Harnessing holobiont interactions to enhance crop resilience: evolutionary systems approaches for African agriculture,” highlighting the emerging importance of microbial partnerships in building drought-resilient crops.
Ezgi Mehmetoglu Boz will present “Broad-range bacterial mutant screens in plant-associated Sphingomonas,” focusing on genetic determinants of beneficial plant colonization.
